First Visit to see the Foundation Blocks of the World Trade Center |
San explains, "My first impression upon seeing the concrete blocks that had been removed from the foundation walls of the World Trade Center site, was one of solemn contemplation. To be able to walk around each piece, see the detail of the metal pieces imbedded into them, the amount of beautiful aggregate rock and the quiet surroundings, created very strong emotions within me. I photographed each one , taking care to note their individual characteristics. It was then and there, that what I was about to agree to do, was the best decision of my artistic career. I knew instantly, just how important this project was going to be and already knew it would be received well. I had a hard time leaving that place, already missing them as I flew home the next day, but knew soon enough, they would return to me one by one to be created as memorials for all to see and experience. I was happy and sad at the same time." |
